Starting with shipments from farms on or after April 13, 2026 Daoflowers system will introduce an updated classification model for Colombian hydrangeas. This change concerns the approach to product grading and is aimed at bringing internal standards into full alignment with the practices of key supplier farms..

What is changing?

Traditionally, hydrangeas have been classified based on the diameter of the bud head in centimeters, and orders were accepted and processed using this format. Starting with new shipments, Daoflowers is switching to a verbal grading system similar to the one already successfully used for carnations.

Each grade designation now corresponds to a specific range of bud diameters, which ensures:

• standardized communication with suppliers
• reduced operational discrepancies when fulfilling orders
• more accurate product expectations on the customer’s end

New Grading System

Starting this week the classification for Colombian hydrangeas will be as follows:

• Select: flower head diameter 16–18 cm
• Super: flower head diameter 18–19 cm
• Premium: flower head diameter 19–22 cm (average size — 20 cm)
• Jumbo: flower head diameter 22+ cm

It is important to note that the Super grade is represented by a limited number of farms and is less common on the market. The bulk of the supply is concentrated in the Premium and Jumbo categories which remain the most stable in terms of availability and demand.

The transition to verbal grades does not affect the physical characteristics of the product, but significantly simplifies the ordering process and the coordination of specifications:
